Hocking County OH- LHSD announces revised learning plan following
Announcement from Governor DeWine: https://conta.cc/3rShaSk

Dear Logan-Hocking School District Community,

Happy New Year to all LHSD staff, students and community members. In recent days, there has been a change to the previously implemented guidelines from Governor DeWine, The Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Education regarding quarantining within school classrooms following exposures to a positive case of Covid-19.

On December 30, 2020, Governor DeWine announced that when an exposure occurs within a classroom setting, as long as all individuals in the classroom were wearing masks, fellow students are no longer required to quarantine. The change follows an evaluation of virus spread in Ohio schools conducted by researchers with the Ohio Schools COVID-19 Evaluation Team. Preliminary results of the evaluation found no discernable difference in the risk of contracting the coronavirus between those in close contact with a COVID-positive person in the classroom and those who were farther away. Please note, this does not apply to situations outside of the classroom, such as sports, extra curriculars and after school activities.

With this new information and the continued implementation of mask wearing in classrooms, we now have a greater ability to keep staff and students in school. We will not be implementing the Hybrid Plan for the middle school and high school. Effective January 11, all LHSD schools will resume our Back-to-School Plan implemented at the beginning of the year. All students enrolled in our in person learning will return to school. Students enrolled in Chieftain Academy will continue on our digital platform.

As a reminder, January 4 and 5 will be teacher training days. Remote learning will continue as planned January 6-8 to finish up the first semester. Updated information regarding the usage of the Chieftain Center, extra curricular and co-curricular activities will be communicated in the near future. We will be working with coaches and advisors to develop a plan for safely resuming these activities.

We are excited to have students and families of all grade levels who wish to do so, return to full time in-person learning. Thank you for continuing to practice measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 such as wearing a mask when in public settings or around others, following healthy hand hygiene and practice social distancing and staying home when sick. Thank you to each and every one of our students, staff, and families for their continued cooperation as our plans have evolved.

Sincerely,

The Logan Hocking Board of Education
and Monte Bainter, Superintendent
