Governor Mike Dewine Orders Flag at Half Staff for Murdered Toledo Police Officer

OHIO – Governor Mike Dewine has ordered flags in Lucas County and Ohio State House at Half staff to honor Toledo police officer Anthony Dia.


Officer Did was shot and killed around Midnight Saturday morning.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the loss of Toledo police officer Anthony Dia, who was shot and killed in the line of duty at approximately 12:03 tonight,” Toledo Fire Chief Brian Byrd said.




Officer Dia was reporting to a call on a man that was intoxicated when he was shot. Police found the suspect 57 year old man later dead also.

Dewine issued the following statement, “Fran and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death last night of Toledo Police Officer Anthony Dia in the line of duty. We extend our sympathy to his wife and 2-year-old child, his other family members, and his colleagues in the Toledo Police Department. To honor the life and service of Officer Dia, I have ordered that the flags in Lucas County and at the Statehouse be lowered to half staff beginning tomorrow and through his funeral service on Tuesday.”
