Google Releases Tracking Movement Data During COVID-19 for Ohio

OHIO – Google released today a massive new set of data that was collected from users’ mobile devices showing where stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic are working and where they are not.


Google said it is making the anonymized user data available in an effort to help public health officials gain visibility into the COVID-19 pandemic and determine the efficacy of social-distancing measures to slow the spread of the virus.

The data tracks users over six different categories: Retail, recreation, grocery, pharmacy, workplaces, and residential.

Overall US data shows from February 16 to March 29 google data shows 47% drop in visits to retail and recreation sites. 38% decline in workplace, and 12% increase residential.

In Ohio 46% decline of Retail & Recreation, 37% decline in workplace, and %11 increase in residential. Ohioans have increased 37% to local parks.
