COLUMBUS – A box truck driver is dead after a head on collision with a dump truck on I-270 in Columbus yesterday afternoon.
According to Police the driver of the dump truck Charles Richard, 56 lost control of his dump truck when his front tire blew. He crossed the median and into oncoming traffic where his truck collided with the box truck and two other vehicles. The driver of the box truck (name withheld until next of kin) died at grant hospital after he truck suffered heavy front end damage taking most of the blow from the dump truck. The driver of the dump truck was also sent to Grant Hospital and is in critical condition. Several other drivers were involved but not injured, and four juveniles were taken to Children’s hospital with only minor injuries.
Traffic was closed in the area from around 2 pm to around 7 pm causing major delays on the cities south side.
The crash is still under investigation.
