FRANKLIN – Franklin County Coroner Dr. Anahi Ortiz is reporting another surge in overdose deaths.

This time its eight people in less that 24 hours. The Coroner says that four of them came from a centralized location Whitehall. Ortiz in the past says this is mostly from a naloxone resistant mixture of drugs with fentanyl that can be mixed in to cocaine and methamphetamine is normally what they see.

On October 18, and 19th the coroner announced 9 deaths in just over 24 hours, based on the same information.

In fact the first 6 months of 2019 from January 1 to June 30th Franklin County saw a total of 254 overdose deaths a increase of 4% from years past. The coroner says that this she believes is because of more fentanyl use in drugs.

Most overdose deaths are from the mixture of cocaine and fentanyl drugs. A majority of the deaths were black males according to the report.
