Accident on 35 Claims one Motorcyclist Life

 Chillicothe – The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred on US 35 near Eastern Avenue, in the active construction zone. The crash occurred on Wednesday, May 08, 2019, at approximately 3:30 P.M. 

A 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jennifer R. Miller, 46 years-old, of Lexington, Kentucky, was attempting to merge from Eastern Avenue onto US 35 eastbound. A 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Susan Downs, 42, of Boston, Kentucky, was behind Ms. Miller and also attempting to merge onto US 35 eastbound. Ms. Miller was thrown from her motorcycle after it overturned. She was struck by a 2013 Kenworth semi, driven by Nicholas Kaufman, 28, of Nowthen, Minnesota. Ms. Downs struck Ms. Miller’s motorcycle. 

Ms. Miller succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Ms. Downs suffered minor injuries but refused to be treated at the scene. Mr. Kaufman was not injured. 

US 35 was closed for approximately one hour. ODOT responded to the scene to assist with traffic. The Scioto Township Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. 

Motorcyclists are reminded to wear a helmet. 

The crash remains under investigation.
