Pike County Sheriff Reports of Officer-Involved Shooting after Chase in County

PIKE – Pike county sheriff Tracy Evans reported that one person was taken to hospital with a gun shot wound after allegedly attacking a officer.

According to the sheriff’s department on Monday, March 29, 2021, at 2:32 am Ohio state highway patrol attempted to stop a vehicle going southbound on US-23. That vehicle failed to stop and a chase was initiated. That chase after getting information on the vehicle was terminated when the vehicle approached the city of Waverly due to safety concerns.

Pike County deputies picked up the chase on US-32 and SR-104. The chase ended at the 400 blocks of Spunk Run road where the vehicle charged a sheriff deputy and shots were fired.

Four people were inside the vehicle at the time only one was injured in the shooting he was transferred to Grant hospital in stable condition. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Pike county charged 19-year-old Trey Reed of Portsmouth with felony fleeing and eluding. Reed was found to have felony warrants from Scioto county for failure to appear. More charges are possible, the situation remains under investigation.

The sheriff department has requested that Ohio attorney generals bureau of Criminal investigation conduct an investigation.
