Over 20,000 Jobless Claims Have Been Flagged as Fraud in a Week

OHIO – Ohio reported 115,174 initial jobless claims were filed last week, and over 20,000 were flagged for potential fraud.

Those were mostly new reports, 322,063 was the total of jobless claims according to Ohio department of job and family services. That number comes from both traditional unemployment and claims for extended benefits. 192,532 Ohioans received Pandemic Unemployment Assistance last week.

Anyone who suspects their identity was compromised and used to file a fraudulent unemployment claim is encouraged to report it to ODJFS at unemploymenthelp.ohio.gov/IdentityTheft/ or call 833-658-0394.

Mar. 8, 2021*Identity Theft at SR 37 NE. Fraudulent unemployment claim.*Identity Theft at Tollgate Rd. Fraudulent unemployment claim.*Traffic crash at US33 and Gender Rd. Female driver struck a guardrail. Units arrived on scene and arrested the female driver for OVI.*Theft at New Salem Rd. Caller reported his wallet missing. He stated that his credit card company was reporting fraudulent activity on the account.*Domestic dispute. Call originally came in as a rolling dispute in a vehicle around the area of SR256 and SR37. Female called 911 to report she was the victim and that her baby’s father committed domestic violence while she was driving. She pulled off at Pleasantville Rd. and Old Millersport Rd. The male suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled into the woods due to having warrants. Units arrived to set up a perimeter. CPD chopper was called in and Dep. Meloy with his K-9 partner started to track the male. Eventually the male was located and taken into custody. Male was first transported to FMC for clearance for jail due to injuries received while fleeing from units through the woods. The caller advised that she was being followed by individuals from a bar and possibly trying to kidnap her. Units arrived on scene and found the female to be intoxicated. She was placed under arrest and taken to jail. Units attempted to follow up at the bar, however it was closed.*Traffic Stop, Taylor Rd. Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Mitsubishi for a traffic infraction. Reynoldsburg K9 arrived on scene and had a positive alert on the vehicle. The passenger admitted to having Fentanyl and turned it over to the Deputy.
