One Dead, Ohio Man Explodes Garage after Making IED Explosive to Sell for Lawnmower

ASHTABULA – Ashtabula sheriffs department says that a 55-year-old is dead after an IED he was making for money to pay off a lawnmower exploded and killed him.

According to the sheriff’s department, the 55-year-old who lived on 1300 block of Clay Street in Jefferson Township was caught in the explosion. Deputies were called to the location on May 24 shortly after the explosion happened, when they arrived they found a detached garage located behind the residence was burnt to the ground, and debris from the explosion was scattered into neighbors’ yards. The deputies found the man outside the barn and he was transferred to University hospital Geneva Medical where he died from his injuries.

The neighbor told deputies on the scene that the man was making the improvised explosive device in his garage to sell so he could make money to pay off a lawnmower he recently purchased that was also burnt up in the fire.

The State fire Marshal was called to the scene and is still investigating the situation.
