Hocking County OH- Sheriff’s Department Welcomes New K-9, Zara

Hocking County OH- Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North is very pleased to announce the newest addition to the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Zara.

K-9 Zara is a 2 ½ year old female Belgian Malinois who was born in Germany and brought to the United States by Vohne Liche Kennels in Indiana.

K-9 Zara and her new partner, Detective Sam Angle, recently graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol K-9 Training Academy where they received their State Certification.

Trained in narcotics detection, article searches, tracking, building searches and apprehension, K-9 Zara and Detective Angle are assigned to the Hocking County Sheriff’s Interdiction Unit and tasked with combating drugs within Hocking County.

K-9 Zara joins two other Hocking County Sheriff’s Office K-9’s in their service to the residents and visitors of Hocking County;

K-9 Tiger, a Yellow Lab trained in narcotics detection who is assigned to the Logan-Hocking School District with her handler, School Resource Officer Emily DeWitt, and K-9 Ilka, a Belgian Malinois trained in explosive detection and apprehension who is assigned to the Village of Laurelville Patrol Division with her handler Deputy Rick Torchick.

The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Program is primarily supported by donation to minimize the cost to tax payers. Donors have generously supported the program since its inception under Sheriff North in 2002.
