FAIRFIELD – A routine traffic stop became a medical emergency after a deputy noticed that a passenger during the stop was overdosing.

According to the Fairfield County sheriff’s office during the stop, the Deputy had noticed in plain view drug paraphernalia. A secondary search afterward was done where the officer found needles and miscellaneous paraphernalia. Not an arrestable offense, when the officer approached the vehicle with summonses for offenses he noticed that the passenger in the car was in overdose.

Most officers now carry Narcan, the life saving drug reversal compound. The Deputy went back to his cruiser and grabbed the drug and administered it while calling for EMT to the scene.

The woman was transported to Fairfield county hospital and treated for drug overdose.
