Zanesville Police Officer Arrested After Being Accused of Shooting Guns on Drunken Ride in Licking County

Newark – A Zaneville police officer was arrested and the driver that was with him on Saturday after a drunken ride and guns being fired out a moving vehicle.

According to a press release from Licking County Sheriffs office, On February 1, 2020 at 1655 hours Deputies from the Licking County Sheriffs office was called to the area of Staet Route 16 and Name Rd for a complaint of a person shooting out of the front passenger window from a moving vehicle. Licking Sheriff says that when they got to the area they were unable to locate the vehicle in question, but a BOLO (be on the lookout) was send over the radio.

A short time later Muskingum County Sheriffs saw and stopped the suspect vehicle in question at Kearns Drive in Muskingum County. The driver Jarred Miracle, 39 was suspected for driving under the influence of alcohol and after investigation he was arrested for OVI by OSP. Miracle is a former sergeant at Zanesville Police department. Sheriff reported that both individuals were under the influence of alcohol.

The Passenger identified as Charles A. Lewis, 34 is a Zanesville Police officer that is currently on medical leave. During the search of the car Sheriffs found two guns and several gun casings inside the vehicle. After questioning and investagtion Lewis was arrested for one count of discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, a third-degree felony.
