UPDATE: Police Report on Suspicious Fire Death and Rule it First Homicides of 2020 in Franklin County

UPDATE – Yesterday, January 1, 2020 at 7:42pm, Columbus Fire responded to 3380 Retriever Rd. on a house fire.

The home when firefighters arrived was completely engulfed.

The fire department did a interior search of the home and found the bodies of three individuals, including one that was a young child.

33-year-old Nerissa Distin and 42-year-old Gary Morris were pronounced deceased at 7:40pm & 2-year-old Serina Morris was pronounced deceased at 9:23pm.

Firefighters and Police immediately launched a investigation into the the deaths and cause of the fire because it was suspicious in nature.

The victims, Nerissa Distin & Serina Morris, are now being considered the subjects of homide investigations. Preliminary investigation efforts have determined that Gary Morris’ actions resulted in his own death.

These are the city’s 1st & 2nd homicides of 2020.
