FAYETTE – Starting tonight we are heading into at least a week long weather system of bitter cold. According to national weather service a cold front will start moving east through the region with arctic air leaving tomorrow weather with windchills making it feel like the single digits. This weather will stick around throughout the week.
The Fayette County sheriff wants to warn people to be prepared for the winter and gives a few good tips for the bad situations you could face.
- Don’t forget to make sure your pets are taken care of.
- We hope no one loses power but it’s definitely possible so prepare the best way you can in the event of an outage.
- Charge your phones, make sure you have flashlights that work (or some type of light) & have a back up plan for temporary heat.
- If you’re traveling keep a blanket in your vehicle in the event of a breakdown.
Other good ideas are to have a disposable lighter in your car or on your person. Carry kitty litter or sand if your car gets stuck in the ice or snow. Have a emergency place to go if you do lose heat. Check on elderly shut in family members.
