Teen Arrested for Shooting and Raping Teen Girl in Scioto County

SCIOTO COUNTY – Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announces that his 911 center received a call on Monday July 15, 2019 at approximately 9:00 pm from an Ainsley Ave. Wheelersburg resident stating that a juvenile female showed up at his door stating that she had been shot and needed help.
Captain John W. Murphy stated that a deputy responded to the address and located the 15 year old juvenile female that had been shot in the leg. The juvenile was transported Southern Ohio Medical Center by Porter Township Rescue Squad.
Captain John Murphy stated that a detective responded to this location to start an investigation. During the investigation the victim was interviewed at Southern Ohio Medical Center, and it was reported that the suspect a 16 year old juvenile male asked the victim to have sexual conduct with him. When the victim refused he made threats to shoot her if she did not comply. The female told the suspect multiple times no and as a result of that the suspect shot her, then sexually assaulted her. The victim advised the male immediately fled the area after shooting her.
Captain Murphy stated that the 16 year old male was later located on Dold Road in Wheelersburg Ohio and was detained without incident which resulted in him being interviewed and charged. Murphy stated that deputies and detectives were able to search a large wooded area behind the residence on Ainsley and locate the weapon used in the assault along with cut out pieces of the mattress along with bedding. Murphy stated that these items will be sent to BCI&I for testing.
Sheriff Marty V. Donini stated that the 16 year old male has been charged with one count of Rape a felony of the 1st degree, one count of felonious assault a felony of the 2nd degree and tampering with evidence a felony of the 3rd degree. This juvenile is currently being held in the Ross County detention center without bond and will appear in Scioto County Common Pleas Juvenile Court on a later date.
Captain John W. Murphy stated that the victim was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio for further treatment and is currently listed in stable condition.
Captain John W. Murphy stated during this investigation the detective was able to determine that the contact with the victim and the suspect took place using social media. Captain Murphy encourages all parents to keep a close eye on any social media that your child may be currently using and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Our top priority is to continue keeping all of the children in our community safe.
