COLUMBUS – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine encourages eligible Classmates.com customers to file a complaint with his office by Wednesday, Oct. 14, to be considered for a refund under a $3 million multi-state settlement fund established earlier this year.

Consumers may be eligible for a refund under the settlement if they:

  • Have an unresolved complaint against Classmates;
  • Purchased a subscription service from Classmates between Jan. 1, 2008, and June 5, 2015; and
  • Had difficulty canceling the service or were signed up without their authorization.

Eligible Ohio consumers who have not previously filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section should file a consumer complaint at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov or by calling 800-282-0515 no later than Oct. 14, 2015. (Consumers who already filed a Classmates complaint with the Ohio Attorney General are not required to file an additional complaint.)

“We encourage eligible consumers to take advantage of this opportunity,” DeWine said. “Nationally, $3 million is available for consumers, and we want to make sure that Ohioans have a chance to receive their fair share.”

Classmates.com offers online directories of high school and class lists. In May, Attorney General DeWine and 21 other state attorneys general announced a settlement with Classmates over its automatic subscription renewals and cancellation policies. Under the settlement, Classmates agreed to change certain business practices and to establish a $3 million consumer restitution fund, among other provisions.

A copy of the settlement is available on the Ohio Attorney General’s website.
