David L. Bircher

David L. Bircher, age 79, of Shade, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, as a result of a automobile and ATV accident.

Born Nov. 27, 1935, in Good Hope, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Orin L. and Mabel Leona Hoover Bircher.

He was a 1954 graduate of Circleville High School and had been a farmer for over 50 years. He had been a resident of Lodi Township since 1974, serving as Township Trustee for 22 years. He also served on the Athens County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was formerly employed with road construction, DuPont Chemical and Ohio University.

He was a member of Shade Community Center, Shade Senior Citizens, Savannah Lodge 466 F&AM of Guysville and Athens Elks Lodge BPOE 973.

Dave is survived by his wife, Nancy Doyle Bircher; two daughters, Rhonda (Kenny) Meeks and Renee Bircher and her partner Karen Schmidt, all of Shade; a step-daughter, Jamie (Jeff) Remy of Guysville; a step-son, Timothy A. Smith of Athens; three grandchildren, Jenna Meeks, Kenneth Jared Meeks and Chase Meeks; five step-grandchildren, Kayleigh (Nathan) Stotts, Jordan Remy, Payton Remy, Timothy A. Smith II and Jacob L. Smith; two great-grandchildren, Kiley and Cole; two sisters, Betty (Dwight) Radcliff and Shirley Wickline, both of Circleville; and a brother, Richard (Cheryl) Bircher of Circleville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Connie L. Wertman Bircher in 1989; and a half-sister, Eleanor Conkel.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor Dean Blackburn officiating. Friends may from noon until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home. His body has been donated to the Ohio University Medical School.
