CIRCLEVILLE – A clerk at the Duke and Duchess gas station on East Main Street thwarted an armed robbery with a baseball bat early Thursday morning, according to the Circleville Police Department.

Detectives have identified a person of interest in the case, which remains under investigation.

According to reports, the man pictured in surveillance photos entered the store about 12:19 a.m. Thursday and threatened the clerk with a gun, demanding money.

The clerk asked the man to show the gun, and he reportedly pulled out a pocket knife instead. The clerk then grabbed a baseball bat and chased the man from the store.

No injuries were reported.
