Norma J. Shanton, 84, of Chillicothe, died 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, in Signature Healthcare of Chillicothe following an extended illness.

She was born March 10, 1931, in Frankfort, to the late Isaac and Edna Belle Flesher Free.

On Dec. 19, 1952, she married Orlie Shanton, who died Nov. 21, 2011.

Surviving are children, William R. (Linda) Shanton of Chillicothe, Janet (Dave) Hawkins of Circleville, Carol Beatty of Washington Court House and David Shanton of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Greg (Kim), Danielle (Mike), Madison and Destiny Shanton, Brian (Shawna) Hawkins and Jason (Annie) and Cody (Ashlee) Beatty; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank (Carolyn) Free of Frankfort and Russell “Jack” (Phyllis) Free of Washington, Indiana; a sister, Marjory Hollis of Canal Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Michael Shanton; a granddaughter, April Beatty; a sister, Hilda Kinzer; and brothers, Ronnie and Pete Free.

Norma was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church. She retired from Sugar Creek Packing. Norma was a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, in the Ware Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Viar officiating. Burial will follow in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
