Herbert E. Timmons

Herbert E. Timmons, 86, of Stoutsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

He was born May 24, 1929 in Pickaway County, the son of the late Orville and Celestie (Speakman) Timmons.

A Master Sergeant in the US Army, Herb was awarded a Purple Heart while serving during the Korean War.

He worked at Rickenbacker Air Force Base from June 1952 until he retired in July 1980 and was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees since 1952. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising chickens, turkeys and ducks and vegetable gardening.

On Feb. 17, 1951, Herb married his beloved Mildred Louise Graves, who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his sweet granddaughter, AuroraDawn Timmons; two sisters, Edna Sherwood and Marguerite Larimer; and four brothers, Hoyt, Truit, Kenneth and Virgil “Pete” Timmons.

Herb is survived by his sons, Stanley (Anita), Terry and Harry (Lisa) Timmons; daughter, Linda (Bill) Daugherty; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phoebe Sams of Kingston and Mary Lou (Forrest) Coey of Chillicothe; numerous nieces and nephews; and special little friend and companion, Buddy.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Lopeman officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Circleville, with military services provided by AMVETS 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
