The Ohio Lottery recently honored Ashley Lupfer, seventh grade math teacher at Teays Valley West Middle School, and Alexis Jones, a seventh grade student, through its Partners in Education program in May.

Lupfer was named the Teacher of the Month for the Columbus area. According to the program’s website, the award recognizes outstanding K-12 teachers and faculty for their excellence in the classroom, leadership, creativity and community involvement and dedication on behalf of Ohio students.

Jones was named an Academic All-Star for the Columbus area. The award recognizes kindergarten through 12th grade students who have exhibited academic achievement, community involvement, citizenship and leadership in and out of the classroom.

“I am excited that a number of West staff members and students were recognized through this program this school year,” said Michael Kauffeld, principal at Teays Valley West Middle School. “Mr. Lupfer and Alexis are very deserving, and it’s great to see them be honored.”
