CIRCLEVILLE – A group of about 200 young people showed off their talents in the Circleville High School auditorium this weekend in the annual recital hosted by Charmion Performing Arts Center.

The dance students, ranging in age from 2 to 18, represented all ages and levels of experience at the Circleville-based studio.

“The purpose of the recital is so they can display what they’ve learned throughout the year,” said Heidi Rogols, owner and dance instructor at Charmion. “This is like their final exam for the year, so they can show what improvements they’ve made throughout the season.”

Rogols said about one-quarter of the studio’s students participate in competitions throughout the year but also have to complete core classes as well as competition.

With the theme of “Game On,” students performed a variety of dance styles Friday and Saturday, including ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical, as well as gymnastics and baton.

Rogols said this year’s students represent the largest class Charmion has ever had.

Summer sessions at Charmion begin the week of June 15, and Rogols said she encourages anyone to take their first class for free to see if they will like it. Fall registration begins in July.

“Last year, I was shocked at the number of students who registered early,” she said. “I’m anticipating that again this year, from the reaction we got at the recital. People who are interested in signing up should get their names on the waiting list now.”
