Lowell E. Swepston, 91 of Hallsville, entered into Heaven May 17, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 29, 1924, to the late Ollen E. and Opal Carnes Dawson Swepston. On Sept. 20, 1947, he was married to Frances E (Patterson) Swepston, the love of his life and the mother of his three children. She preceded him in death on March 13, 1977.
Surviving are spouse, Judith Smith Swepston, Circleville; two daughters, Connie (Dwight) Kohl of Edon and Luann (James) Fisher of Kingston; one son, Tom (Cathy) Swepston, Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Chad Brown, Jason Swepston, Caleb Swepston, Jack Jenkins and Beth Ann Morrow; two step-grandchildren, Brandi Rollins and Haeleigh Sellars; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Megan Brown, Tennessee and Lakota Swepston, Reganne and Jacob Jenkins, Kaylee, Bree, Millee and Stanlee Morrow and Redding Rollins Mather; one step-daughter, Kathy (Kelly) Leatherwood of Washington C.H.; one step-son, Chris (Karla) Tussing of Seattle, Washington; seven step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Malvin (late Marian) Swepston, Robert (Betsy) Swepston and Ollen (Linda) Swepston; brother-in-law, Dallas DeLong; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by one brother, Wayne Swepston; and sister, Wanda DeLong.
Lowell graduated from Centralia High School in 1942. He was a World War II veteran that served in the Pacific as a sergeant. He was awarded the Victory Medal; Army of Occupation; Medal Japan; Asiatic Pacific; and Theater Ribbon. His greatest Army thrill was going on Honor Flight a week before his 90th birthday and his first-ever flight.
He loved his God and country and participated every year in the Memorial Day services at Hallsville Cemetery where he placed the wreath at the Veterans Monument. He was retired from Dupont after 25 years of service and was a lifetime farmer.
Lowell was truly a man of God and lived his life as an example of this.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Hill Funeral Home, Kingston. Burial will follow with military honors in the Hallsville cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Hill’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ross County Honor Guard, 110 Copperfield Dr., Chillicothe; or to the Colerain Fire Dept.
