ASHVILLE – A suspicious death on Jefferson Avenue early Sunday morning has now been confirmed as a shooting, according to Chief Doug Clark, Ashville Police Department.

The victim is a 16-year-old white male, Clark said, but his name has not yet been released.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment at 212 Jefferson Avenue about 5:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a disturbance at the residence.

Clark said a second 911 call came in while officers were en route to the location reporting shots had been fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, Clark said they discovered a resident of the apartment attempting to help the victim, who was lying on the floor. The unnamed resident reported he heard the disturbance and the gunfire, and when he came to investigate, the suspect “jumped him” and fled the scene.

The case remains under investigation by the Ashville Police Department with the assistance of a detective from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
