Rosemary Hughes

Rosemary (Boggs) Hughes, 99, of Circleville, passed away April 12, 2017, at Baptist Heath Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

She was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Circleville, the daughter of Ralph M. Boggs and Mary L. Naumann.

Rosey worked many years as a kindergarten teacher in the Circleville school system and was known for her deep compassion, bright blue eyes and beautiful smile.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charlie and Jim; husband, McClure Hayden Hughes; and daughter, Mary Lynne Hughes Woolwine.

She is survived by son-in-law, George M. Woolwine of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kathryn W. (Jim Bob) McAllister of Birmingham, Alabama, and Grant M. (Tara) Woolwine of Alabaster, Alabama; and great-grandchildren, Mary Hughes McAllister, Avery Elizabeth McAllister and Beau McAllister of Birmingham, Alabama.

Rosie and Mac were married Dec. 26, 1941, in Circleville, while Rosie was teaching and Mac was serving in the military.

She was a long time member of the Circleville Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served on many committees.

She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Pickaway County Historical Society and the Circleville Retired Teachers Association.

A special thanks to her caregivers, Kathleen Strode, Willa Evans, Nizafete Vula, Phyllis Ivy, Eileen Pike and Maria Espinoza, whose loving care and compassion are greatly appreciated. A special thanks as well to the doctors and nurses at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington and the Hospice of the Bluegrass, now called Bluegrass Care Navigators, for their compassionate caring support.

A celebration of Rosie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Circleville Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Diane Berger officiating and Mr. Jack Mader providing the music. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Forest Cemetery in Circleville.
