David Ross Spalding, 97, of Circleville, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Pickaway Manor.

He was born July 7, 1919, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of James Sutherland and Christine (Rasmussen) Spalding.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Marjorie; son, Jeffrey Spalding; son and daughter-in-law, James and Rebecca Spalding; and grandson, Merrick Tal Spalding.

Ross was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1946.

He was an accountant at DuPont and retired after 41 years of service.

Ross was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Marine Corps League, Soldier’s Monumental Association, DuPont Retirees and BPOE #77. He had also been a Berger Hospital volunteer and played in the Pumpkin Show Band for many years.

Ross is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Spalding Williams; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams Rivera, Cole Alexander (Susan) Williams, James David (Sharon) Spalding, Tonya Christine (Jim Graham) Spalding, David Thomas Spalding, Alexandra Marie Spalding and Deborah Spalding Stegeman; great-grandchildren, Jean-Pierre Rivera, Hunter Knight Rivera, Claire Marjorie Williams, James Bryan Spalding, Kylie Marie Morse, Nathan D. Morse, Cherish Spalding Kelly, David Exton, Kathryn Richards and William Guglielmo; and daughter-in-law, Marie Spalding-Kopan.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Circleville, with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating. A military service will be provided by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
