CIRCLEVILLE – One man is in custody Tuesday after the early-morning robbery of the Speedway store on North Court Street.

Richard M. Allen, 40, was arrested Tuesday on charges of robbery and theft in connection to the Speedway robbery, as well as a parole violation from the Adult Parole Authority, according to a press release from the Circleville Police Department.

According to reports, a white male entered the Speedway store at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and gathered up several items of merchandise. The man then approached the counter, and the clerk rang up his purchase.

The clerk then asked the man if he needed anything else, at which time he demanded all the money from the cash register and warned the clerk “not to do anything stupid.”

Startled, the clerk opened the drawer and gave the man cash, and he fled the scene.

According to Circleville Police, the investigation led to Allen being identified as the suspect. Allen currently remains in the Pickaway County Jail awaiting an initial hearing in Circleville Municipal Court.

Tuesday’s incident is the latest of several robberies at the Speedway store on North Court Street in recent months, as well as other local businesses inside the city limits.
