Jerry Lee Cornwell, 73, of Williamsport, passed away suddenly on March 17, 2017, at Mt. Carmel Hospital West.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1943, in Ashville, the son of Robert and Alice (Little) Cornwell.

Jerry graduated from Williamsport School in 1961. He began working with his dad when he was 12 years old and continued working for The Dunlap Company for 36 years, most of his adult life.

While in high school, Jerry was manager for many of the sports teams assisting Coach Chester.

Jerry also was a volunteer on the Williamsport Fire Department for 40 years and was the assistant office manager for the Circleville Fire Department for five years. Jerry was a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, John Cornwell; brother-in-law, Leon Ferguson; and sister-in-law, Della Cornwell.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Doris Ferguson of Galloway; brother, David Cornwell of Williamsport; sister-in-law, Carolyn Cornwell of Circleville; niece, Tammi (Craig) Stone; great-nephew, who was his pride and joy, Matthew Ferguson; aunts, Elsie Barton of Newark, Annie Hedges of Ashville, Connie Little of Ashville and Susie Little of Circleville; uncle, John (Catherine) Little; many cousins; best friend, Clark McFarland; and many other loving friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses from Accent Care and the doctors and nurses at Mt. Carmel West who took great care of him.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Circleville, with Pastor Anthony Southard officiating. Burial will be in Springlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
