Here are some of the dogs waiting for forever homes at the Wright-Poling Pickaway County Dog Shelter. This is only a sampling of about 49 dogs currently available for adoption, so if you don’t happen to see the face of your new best friend, feel free to stop by the shelter and meet them all.

 ASH Ash is an adult female Boxer mix. She is a large, high-energy dog and would be best-suited for a home with no other pets. She seems to be good with children. |
 BOUNTY Bounty is an adult male Labrador Retriever mix. He is a large dog. He is very laid-back and enjoys being indoors and outdoors. |

 CREAM Cream is an adult male Boxer. He is a large dog. He is shy around people he doesn’t know, but he is high-energy once he is comfortable with people. He doesn’t seem to mind other dogs. |
 DALTON Dalton is an adult male Hound mix. He is a large dog who gets along with most other dogs, but not all. He seems to be good with children. |
 EMMA Emma is an adult female Boxer. She is a medium-sized dog. She is easy to handle, but she needs a home that does not have infants. She would make a good addition to a mature family. |
 JAMESON Jameson is an adult male Beagle mix. He is a medium-sized dog. He is easy to handle and low-key, and would be best suited for a home with no other dogs. |
 JENKINS Jenkins is an adult male Terrier mix. He is a medium-sized dog. He is a very high-energy dog who loves to run and play with toys. He would be best suited for a home with no other dogs. |
 KANE Kane is an adult male chocolate Labrador Retriever. He is a large dog. He would do well in a young or older-type family. He seems to get along with children and doesn’t seem to mind other dogs. |
 KENJI Kenji is an adult male Hound mix. He is a medium-sized dog. He is good on a leash and knows some basic commands. He is generally laid-back, but he does like to run. He would be good with either an active or a low-energy family. He is probably not suited for a family with school-age or younger children, but he is good with cats and other dogs. |
The Wright-Poling Pickaway County Dog Shelter is a county-operated shelter that is funded only by revenue from the sale of dog tags and the services it provides.
The cost to adopt one of these special friends is $55, which includes a current year dog license and a free vet exam provided by participating local veterinarians. The vet certificate covers the cost of the office call, heartworm test and fecal test. Although they utilize routine veterinary examinations, the shelter cannot guarantee the health of these dogs and strongly recommends taking your dog to the vet as soon as possible.
The shelter offers microchipping for dogs adopted from the Pickaway County dog shelter. The cost is $25 for this option.
They only accept cash or check, no debit or credit cards.
Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are interested in an adoption, it is suggested that you arrive at the shelter no less than 30 minutes before closing. The shelter is closed on Sundays and all government-observed holidays.
