Ralph Ross, 78, of Mt. Sterling, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.

He was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Morgan County.

Ralph was a retired welder of Showa Corporation. He was a member of the Mt. Sterling First Church of the Nazarene, served as a Sunday School superintendent, member of church board, and church greeter also known as the “candy man.”

He loved hunting, fishing and trying that game called golf.

Ralph loved his family and friends, and most of all his grandchildren. He was a role model, to many like a father. He never knew a stranger. To know him was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Emily (Lefever) Ross; sister, June Kemper; and brother, Lee Ross.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 1/2 years, Dortha; son, Ralph E. Ross; daughter, Melinda A. (Jeff) Hogan; four grandchildren, Emilie, Elisabeth, Evan and Elise; brother-in-law, Harold “Grip” Kemper; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ross; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Mt. Sterling First Church of the Nazarene. with Rev. Joe Proudfoot, Rev. Ron Reynolds and Rev. Fred Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
