Gregory A. “Red Dawg” Groves, 66, of Ashville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Mt. Carmel West Medical Center.

He was born on July 12, 1950, in Columbus, to Charles E. and Laura E. (Walters) Groves.

Greg retired from the former Reynolds Aluminum in Ashville after 30 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines during Vietnam; was a proud member of Rick Brown VFW, South Bloomfield, the AMVETS 2256, American Legion, the Eagles 685 in Circleville, and was a past Honor Guard member.

He was a 1968 graduate of Teays Valley High School.

Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Sue (Hoover); and his father.

He is survived by sons, Troy Groves and Tyson Groves (Kaili Badgley, fiancee’), all of Ashville; mother, Laura of Circleville; grandchildren, Darrien and Troy Jr., also Harold Michael Smith and Reilly Thomas Badgley; brothers, Glenn (Cathy) Groves of South Bloomfield and David (Barbara) Groves of Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017. Interment will follow in Harrison Township Cemetery.

The family request in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the funeral home for expenses.
