CIRCLEVILLE – Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire Wednesday morning at a home on Clinton Street.

According to Captain Kirk Edgington, Circleville Fire Department, the blaze began in the bathroom of the residence at 923 Clinton Street, but they have yet to determine the source.

A caller reported the incident at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, and Edgington said when crews arrived on the scene, the entire home was filled with smoke.

“The actual fire was contained to the bathroom area, but there is heavy smoke damage throughout the house,” he said.

The homeowner, Michael Delbrugge, was at work when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported. Edgington said initial reports indicated a dog was inside the home, but when Delbrugge arrived on the scene, he advised the dog was safe at another location.

Delbrugge said he had no idea what could have started the fire unless it was some kind of electrical issue.

“It’s going to take a little bit of work to get it fixed back up,” he said.

The Circleville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by crews from Harrison Township and Pickaway Township fire departments.
