John Esley Newman, 77, of Adelphi, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Vinton County, the son of Roy and Ocie (Clary) Newman.
John was retired from Dale W. Riddle Forest Products and enjoyed spending time at the Horse Camp and riding horses with his friends. His four grandchildren were the joy of his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia (Abbott) Newman; daughter, Jonda Seymour; son-in-law, Brandon Rutter; brothers, Roland, Leonard, Ralph Newman and Cloyd Morrison; and sisters, Juanita Dobbins and Frances Carroll.
John is survived by his grandchildren, Ernie Van Fossen Jr., Starr Anna Van Fossen, Dalton Rutter and Branda “Pudge” Rutter; brothers, Charles, Jesse (Joyce), Artie (Becky) and Dale; sisters, Thelma Johnson, Vada Miller and special sister, Marlene Mathes; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Dick) Starner; brother-in-law, Tony (Pam) Abbott; special friends, Craig and Suellen Riddle; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville, with burial to follow at Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Laurelville.
