Richard D. Cotton, age 63, of Mt. Sterling, died Dec. 19, 2015, at the Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus.

He was born Sept. 15, 1952, in Mt. Sterling, where he was a lifelong resident.

Richard was a steel worker for Simmons Mattress Company where he retired in 2004 as vice president of Local Steel Workers Union. He then worked another 10 years in Grove City with Manheim Ohio Auto Auction.

He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #269 F & AM of Mt. Sterling; charter member of Morning Star Masonic Lodge #795 in Springfield; honorary member of Fieldings Masonic Lodge #192 in South Charleston; 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; Sterling Chapter #74 Order of Eastern Star; and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie E. Cotton and Dorothy L. (Rowland) Cotton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Wilberta “Bertie” Cotton; and daughter, Jennifer Cotton of Virginia.

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at the Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mt. Sterling. At noon, a Masonic service will be given in his honor. A Memorial service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contributions to the charity of choice.
