Deborah M. Zeigler

Deborah Marie (Whalen) Zeigler, 60, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Nov. 16, 2015, at Heartland of Chillicothe following an extended illness, surrounded by family.

She was born May 22, 1955, in Columbus, to Rev. William “Bill” and Patsy “Peg” Utterback Whalen Sr.

Survivors include her mother, of Chillicothe; siblings, William (Pamela) Whalen Jr. of Hagerstown, Maryland, Michelle (Steve) Francisco and Kevin (Becky) Whalen of Cincinnati, James (Jill) Whalen of Westerville, Margaret Whalen of Circleville and Diane Whalen and Beth Whalen of Chillicothe. She was blessed with 13 nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and two great-nephews, all of whom were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her father; and a nephew, Joseph Whalen.

Debbie graduated from Pioneer School and was involved in many extracurricular activities, including cheerleading and bowling. She loved arts and crafts and was known for her joy in making cards for family, friends and the other Heartland residents. Her artwork can be seen throughout the building. Debbie was an active member of the Heartland community and touched everyone she met.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and compassion shown Debbie and her family, and by Heartland Hospice and the Heartland of Chillicothe staff.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at St. Mary Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haller’s, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
