CIRCLEVILLE – The quick action of first responders in an apartment fire at Twin Oaks contained the blaze to a single apartment unit on Saturday.

According to Captain Kirk Edgington, Circleville Fire Department, the damage in apartment 24 was contained to the room and contents after a cooking fire ignited in the kitchen.

Residents in the adjoining apartment units were evacuated briefly during the incident that was reported about 11:16 a.m. The Twin Oaks complex is located in the 900 block of South Court Street.

Sgt. Matthew Hafey, Circleville Police Department, said Officer Kory Yoder arrived first on the scene and managed to contain the blaze with a fire extinguisher until the fire department arrived.

Hafey said initial reports indicated a juvenile might be trapped inside, so he and Sgt. Gary Barrowman, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, searched the apartment as firefighters handled the fire. He said it was later discovered the juvenile had gone for a walk and was not in the apartment when the fire broke out.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
