Pickaway Covid-19 Community Deaths Surpass Pickaway Prison Deaths for the First Time This Week

PICKAWAY – In the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pickaway institutions in Orient Ohio reported widespread coronavirus spread within its walls, through the efforts to contain the virus inmate death ended so far in a total of 37 inmates. Pickaway county outside of the jail has seen the heavy spread of the virus over the last two months have now pushed deaths in the county passed prison deaths.

On Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Pickaway county there are 6,296 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Pickaway County, 2,622 being inmates, leaving 3,674 local residents who have tested positive. There are 960 active local resident cases with 6 hospitalized. There are a total of 77 deaths, 37 being inmates and 40 community deaths.

There is a total of 702,846 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ohio and 8,805 deaths.

Pickaway County Health has been administrating the COVID-19 vaccine since December targeting first responders and retirement centers. Now they have moved into offering vaccinations to people of age 80 and over.
