(Columbus) – As the July Fourth holiday nears, agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit want to remind Ohioans to drink responsibly when enjoying outdoor activities, such as festivals, concerts and reunions.

If you are planning on attending an event where alcohol is served, do not drink if you have not turned 21; do not furnish alcohol to anyone who is not 21 or older; and do not serve alcohol to anyone who is intoxicated. Agents also encourage Ohioans to plan ahead and designate a sober driver to get everyone home safely.

Be mindful that health issues and drinking alcohol may affect how a person’s body responds to heat. Refrain from consuming too much alcohol and ensure you are properly hydrating.

When traveling to and from entertainment venues and concert locations, drivers need to be aware of pedestrians crossing the streets and walking in parking lots.

“OIU urges everyone attending family events, concerts and festivals to follow Ohio’s alcohol laws,” said Major Gary Allen, commander of OIU. “We hope all community and family events are safe and enjoyable for everyone to attend.”

If you have information about a bar, store or carryout selling beer and/or liquor to persons under the age of 21; or you have information of an underage house party, please notify the Ohio Investigative Unit by calling the #677 on your cell phone and your complaint will be investigated.
