Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:
June 9, 2020
Deputies responded to Haydenville Rd. for a dog at large complaint. Deputies located the dog and transported the dog to the shelter. The next day, the owner came to the shelter to claim the dog. The owner purchased 2020 dog license and was issued a minor misdemeanor citation for dog at large.



June 10, 2020
Deputies took a theft report that was alleged to have occurred at a SR 56 property. The alleged thefts occurred several months ago. The property was entered into NCIC.
June 11, 2020
A SR 56 resident reported to deputies that when they attempted to file their taxes, they found someone had fraudulently filed in their name. The victims will notify the Internal Revenue Service.

Deputies responded to a SR 327 residence for a breaking and entering complaint. The complainant told deputies that someone had entered a pole barn and removed several items and caused damage to the structure.

Deputies responded to a Sugar Maple Lane residence for a domestic argument. No violence occurred and no charges were filed.

An Evans Rd. resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to file a misuse of credit card report. The victim told deputies that someone had made unauthorized purchases on their debit card. The victim filed a complaint with the fraud department at their banking institution.

A Barker Rd. resident reported to deputies that after seeing an unknown person driving a white Ford Ranger pickup by their barn, they discovered that two gas cans had been stolen from the barn. The case remains under investigation.

A Clay Lick Rd. resident reported to deputies that someone had broken into their shed stealing two chain saws.

A Wynkoop Rd. resident came to the Sheriff’s Office to file a report of menacing. The complainant told deputies that they felt threatened by their significant others ex. The complainant was given information to contact the Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Assistance for information for a protection order.

Deputies responded to a Hayden Place apartment for a domestic argument involving a parent and child. After speaking with the parties, deputies had a juvenile transported to HVCH for evaluation.

Deputies responded to a Main St. Rockbridge for a criminal damaging complaint. The complainant told deputies that while they were away from the residence, someone broke a window.

Deputies responded to a Haydenville Rd. residence for a complaint in which the resident told deputies that they had someone from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad hook a truck to their trailer and move it. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to a Haydenville Rd. residence where neighbors were arguing. The complainant told deputies that the neighbors were having a party and playing corn hole and the bags were going onto their property.

Deputies responded to a SR 93 residence for a domestic violence complaint. After investigation, deputies arrested Don G. Smith, 49, New Straitsville for Domestic Violence and Assault and transported him to the SEORJ.

Deputies responded to an alleged home invasion at a Murray City residence. The complainant told deputies that the suspect entered the residence and removed property by force. The deputies made contact with the suspect who said he went to the residence to get his property back and had been allowed inside the residence. The suspect said he retrieved his property and went back home. The suspect told deputies that they would provide a receipt for the property. The case was forwarded to the detective bureau for follow up.
