Hocking County OH- On January 21, 2021 The Hocking County Humane Society and Hocking County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of animal neglect and cruelty at a State Route 180 residence.

A Deputy Sheriff assigned to the dog warden position and a humane agent along with Sheriff’s Office detectives, went to the residence after receiving the complaint to investigate. They found access to the residential driveway blocked by a gate and could not locate anyone at the residence. From the driveway, the deputy and agent could see several animals on the exterior of the residence in obvious distress.

On January 22, 2021 a search warrant for the residence was obtained and served. During the search dogs were found without food or water both inside and outside the residence. Dogs without proper shelter were located outside of the residence. Additionally located outside the residence, deputies found 80 to 120 pigeons, 2 cows and several chickens, one of which was alive, but frozen to the ground.

In total, the deputy and agent seized 42 dogs, of which 25 were puppies. Additionally, deputies located 5 marijuana plants, 3 bags of dried marijuana and seized three rifles.

Deputies and Humane Society Agents will be meeting with the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal charges. All of the animals seized are in the custody of the Hocking County Humane Society.
