PICKAWAY – Every Saturday, for the rest of October (17th, 24th, 31st) New Life is partnering with other local churches in the City for an event called City Serve.

A event that started as an idea five months ago has now turned into reality. When Covid-19 hit the country shut down, with that local farmers who supplied the food chain to restaurants and grocery stores suffered low demand having to throw away food. Now thanks to a $1 billion program authorized by President Trump those foods are now going to people who need them and farmers are able to sell their supplies instead of wasting.

“I’m so proud of the people of USDA for designing this program in record time. With this additional up to $1 billion in funding, the Farmers to Families Food Box Program will continue to save countless jobs, support our farmers and move food to where it’s needed most,” said Secretary Perdue. “As the President said, when a food box is delivered to a family, we show them that in this country no one is forgotten.”

Local churches have come together for a big giveaway to the area of boxes of Meat, produce, and dairy foods free to anyone who wants them. Each week the churches will have a location with 1000 pounds of these products. All someone in need has to do is show up and receive one.

“It is incredible to think that in a little more than five months, this food box program has gone from an idea to a reality that has provided more than 100 million boxes of nutritious foods to people in need and along the way has helped to keep farmers and ranchers in business and allowed Americans working in our nation’s food supply chain to get back to work,” said Secretary Perdue. “I have been meeting with food banks and recipients across the country and it’s been heartening to hear all the positive feedback on how the program has saved businesses and fed Americans in need. We are now into the third round of deliveries and we’re working harder than ever to continue to build on the success of the program.”

“With 100 million Farmers to Families Food Boxes delivered, we have utilized critical funding authorized by President Trump to continue connecting our great American farmers to millions of food insecure families. I am proud of this Administration’s mission to keep our most vulnerable families fed and support American family farms in the process,” said Advisor to the President, Ivanka Trump.
