Fairfield County OH- Lancaster Teen Driver Killed in SR256 Crash and Passenger Critical

Walnut Township – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash on SR256 just east of SR37 in Fairfield County.

The crash occurred on November 12, 2020 at approximately 08:11 PM. Robert M. Carpenter, age 18, of Lancaster was traveling westbound on SR256 in a blue 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe when he drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a fence, and then two trees. Mr. Carpenter was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

Mr. Carpenter was transported by Pleasant Township Medics to Fairfield Medical Center where he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The passenger in the vehicle, Jamie L. Bunthoff, age 33, of Lancaster was transported from the scene by Thurston-Walnut Township Medics to Grant Hospital. She is currently in critical condition.

Troopers from the Lancaster Post of the Highway Patrol are investigating the crash. Members of the Pleasant Township Fire Department, Thurston-Walnut Township Fire Department, and Fairfield County Coroner’s Office were on scene. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
