VIRGINIA – Yes it had to be said by a Virgina potion control center who told residents that they should never drink bleach to prevent COVID-19.

The Blue Ridge Poison control center said in a letter, “There is a lot of confusing, incomplete, and just plain inaccurate information circulating about how to prevent the COVD-19 virus from spreading. Some advice measures simply won’t help, and some could be downright dangerous. The Blue ridge poison center at UVA Heath warns that drinking bleach will not prevent COVID-19 infections and could cause serious injury.”

Bleach is effective on killing germs and virus outside the body on disinfecting car handles desktops and other surfaces. Internal ingestion of bleach can cause burns of the throat and stomach, skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and vomiting.

Bleach is a good chemical to use for other cleaning purposes though, use one part bleach per gallon of water for regular cleaning of surfaces.
