OHIO – During Dewine’s press conference today he spoke about the limited testing Ohio has had to deal with and what he thinks testing will look like in the future.

“We know Ohio hasn’t had as much testing as we would have liked. We had to ration the testing.
They are much faster than the private labs. The turnaround at private labs is unacceptable for the patient and the rest of us. Our ODH will continue to analyze tests for the most critical patients, including hospitalized and symptomatic healthcare workers.”

“I’ve asked Dr. Acton to require non-testing hospitals — those that send their specimens to a third party to be tested — to contract with any of the following labs: Ohio State, Metro Health Cleveland, Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals. These hospitals have the capacity to do tests.”

Dewine said that part of the plan is for rapid testing as soon as they get it into Ohio

“We think it will happen in the next week. We’re looking forward to this, Dewine Said,”We plan on utilizing freestanding emergency departments, urgent care centers, free-standing ambulatory surgery centers (not in use due to postponement of elective surgeries), and hospital multi-use healthcare facilities that house a lab service.”

United Way of Pickaway County is asking for volunteers for drive thru testing facilities now to get in preparation for more testing in the county. Plans for two testing locations located at OCU and Westfall are planned and a possible Berger Ohio Health location located at Southern Pointe.

Some jobs will have minimal contact with individuals like meals on wheels delivery drivers, they are also looking for people to help to manage phone inquires, and volunteers to help with two COVID-19 testing facilities that will be located at OCU and Westfall schools in the near future. The testing facilities jobs ask for help with traffic control to Drs. and RNs. to perform the testing at the sites.

According to Jama Cobb at the United Way of Pickaway County you must sign up as a volunteer on the website to sign up for the jobs. The login is on the website its a quick process to become a volunteer then you can sign up for jobs needed.

“United Way will become the hub for current information needs, I can see these needs to be increasing over the next several weeks, and we will need the community help to sign up.”
