OHIO – Dewine today started to loosen some of the stay-at-home orders that have been in place since March.

Dewine wanted to remind people that COVID-19 is still here, and as dangerous as it ever was.

“I think the most important question is how we restart Ohio. B/c if we do it right, we can provide as much protection as we can to our workers and everyone involved. The how is very important,” said Dewine, “My heart aches for the businessmen and women who have not been able to work, and who are looking at savings going down every day. For the employees who are unemployed. One cannot overstate the tragedy of this, so we have to get moving – but at the same time protect Ohioans,”

Today Dewine said that some businesses and companies can move forward:

  • All healthcare procedures that do not require an overnight stay in a hospital can move forward. Dentists and veterinarians can also begin full steam ahead on May 1.
  • May 4th: Manufacturing, Distribution, and Construction will open back up. But we’re going to require those who are opening – and those who already have been open – to follow strict guidelines on how to reopen.
  • Also on May 4th: General office environments can reopen in #Ohio. However, we still want people to work from home as much as possible.
  • May 12th: Consumer, Retail, and Services to reopen.

Dewine said that salons, in side seating in restaurants, and daycare will stay in place for now, also for gatherings, the order of no more than 10 people will remain.

“We know there is a great desire to get restaurants fully open and to get hair salons and daycares open — but we must first start down the pathway of opening things up where we thought there was less risk and a more controllable risk,” says Dewine, “It’s very hard to control the environment in daycare/schools. I understand what parents are going through, but we have to start with what is easiest to control.”
