Deputy Exposed to Substance, Needs Narcan at Traffic Stop

FAIRFIELD – On May 14, 2020 a Deputy had a response to what he is calling a “foreign substance,” that caused him to have issues breathing and required help from local EMS.


A Warrant Arrest, on Lancaster St. Units were dispatched to Bateson Beach Dr. to ATL for a subject with a felony warrant. Vehicle was spotted on SR 204 and followed into Millersport. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot, a traffic stop was conducted and the Male and Female occupant taken into custody.


While searching the male for weapons and illegal contraband, he stated he had some heroin. The Deputy removed the item and was exposed to a foreign substance. Approximately 30 seconds later, the Deputy began to complain of not being able to breath very well and seemed to not be not himself. Another Deputy noticed this very quickly and made the determination to call for EMS to come and check on the first Deputy. Prior to EMS arrival, the first Deputies condition became worse and the second Deputy administered NARCAN. After several minutes, the Deputy began to feel better and started to breath without struggle. The Deputy was transported to the hospital and was later released.

MCU responded to the scene and collected evidence and decontaminated the suspect vehicle. The female is being charged with Obstruction and the male is being held on a Felony probation violation warrant with charges pending testing on the numerous drug related items taken from the scene as evidence.
