Columbus OH- Franklin County Coroner Dr. Anahi Ortiz announced some sad and disturbing news today. She said that the county coroner’s office has seen 23 overdose deaths since January 31, 2020.
She also said that there were 5 overdose deaths that happened on February 8, 2020 alone bringing the year to date total to 28 deaths.
This announcement follows her previous warning on February 1, 2020 that the office saw 10 overdose deaths in just one day on January 31, 2020.
She is asking that the people who are doing these dangerous drugs to not do them alone and always keep narcan on hand.
One of the trends that we have noticed while monitoring local authorities and emergency services, overdoses in Franklin County almost always work its way south to our region. We have recently heard an increase in overdoses in Pickaway and Ross counties over the last few days, solidifying the trend currently. So, if you know an addict, keep an eye on them and help with narcan if needed.
