Columbus Fire Rescues 40 People from Flood Waters

COLUMBUS – Around 4 am this morning on Tuesday May 19th Columbus Fire was dispatched to a service run on Stormcroft Avenue. When they arrived they found a street that was rapidly filling up with water from an overnight storm. A full assignment was dispatched, and with assistance from Mifflin Township and Westerville firefighters, approximately 40 people were moved through waist-high water from there homes to higher ground via boats. American Red Cross responded to help residents with finding temporary shelter in hotels and with the recovery process.



Around 5 inches of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours, and became the heaviest rainfall of the year. In March the last heaviest rainfall of 2020 it took three days to accumulate 5 inches of rain.
