Chillicothe OH- Employee Theft Being Investigated at Walmart

Chillicothe OH- An investigation into an employee theft from Walmart is underway. Detective received video and a written statement from Walmart Loss Prevention advising that on 1/10/2020, they were investigating register shortages from the store, and found that Register 53 had a $200 shorage from the date of January 9th.

Loss Prevention stated that they began reviewing surveillance footage from the register, and observed female employee active and load a pre paid credit card, but fail to place any money in the register. The employee then placed the card and the receipt in her pocket.

Loss Prevention stated that they advised store management of the theft, and began further investigations. Loss Prevention stated that they were able to find video of the employee removing cash from the register and concealing it on her person on the 24th day of December, as well as the 9th day of January.

Loss Prevention states that on January 8th, they observed the female employee loading two gift cards for $182.00. Loss Prevention states that they observed the employee pay only $100 for the cards, shorting the register, $82.00.
Loss Prevention states that on January 15th, an interview was conducted with the emplyee in which she admitted to stealing approximately $2000 over the course of her employment, which began in 2019.

The investigator reviewed video surveillance footage provided by Loss Prevention. On the first video from January 8th, they observed the employee purchase the two prepaid cards, and only pay $100 out of the $180 owed. The second clip, from January, they found surveillance
footage that appears to show the employee slip money from the register and place it in her front right pocket, however the cash is not visible on camera.

The 3rd clip, also from January 9th, appears to show the employee purchase a pre paid card, but fail to pay any money for it. Officers are still reviewing evidence in this case.

No charges against the employee have been filed at this time.
