The acceptance of the City of Chillicothe as a member took place Feb.13, 2020, following a resolution to join MORPC that was previously approved by the city.

“We are very happy to join a professional organization that provides us with more resources and access to critical information as we compete to strengthen our local economy,” Circleville Mayor Don McIlroy said.

“As Chillicothe continues to plan for the future and position itself as a destination for families to live, work and visit, MORPC will be an important partner towards achieving these goals, and I look forward to working together,” Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney said.

The commission serves its members through planning, direct service, public policy information, innovative programming and intergovernmental coordinating services in the areas of transportation, sustainability, land use, energy conservation and housing.

The city’s membership will provide the opportunity for two representatives to serve as voting members on the MORPC board, which meets 10 times a year to discuss important regional issues, guide the direction of MORPC’s work, network with local leaders to discuss common problems and create solutions to shared regional challenges.

“Circleville is a vital part of a thriving Central Ohio region, and we’re excited for their leadership on regional issues,” MORPC Executive Director William Murdock said. “We look forward to bringing additional services to their residents and businesses and hope to be a resource in planning for economic growth and better transportation.”

Additional benefits of serving on MORPC’s board include grants and funding opportunities, educational forums, training and seminars, technical assistance and data, and policy development.
